The RDR-347 12 W reference design is based on the LYT4313E device, which provides a power factor of 0.95 or higher and reduces total harmonic distortion (THD) to less than 10% - easily meeting EN61000-3-2C requirements. With an efficiency of more than 86% at 120 VAC, the LYTSwitch IC features an integrated PFC and CC power conversion stage that helps minimize losses and component count, resulting in increased reliability and reduced cost.
SCR dimming is a challenge, especially for deep dimming, because the thyristor asymmetry between half cycles can have a significant impact on dimming. The RDR-347 shows that Power Integrations' LYTSwitch driver ICs work well at very low output currents without any flicker or flicker.
The design also shows that the system does not exhibit significant hysteresis at startup (the so-called "sudden brightening effect"), even when performing deep dimming.
