IBM wants to participate in China's smart grid construction

For the first time, IBM has released the "Smart Power" strategy and series of solutions in China. Zheng Jun, general manager of IBM China's Energy and Utilities Division, said that IBM wants to participate in China's smart grid construction.

According to Zheng Jun, IBM is currently working with the China Electric Power Research Institute (CEPRI) and the State Grid Corporation of China Electric Power Research Institute to jointly develop an optimized distribution network planning platform.

IBM's "Smart Power" strategy focuses on solving various problems encountered in the construction of smart grids, such as new energy access, on-demand power supply, and smart power.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the goal of the State Grid Corporation of China in 2010 is to complete investment in power grid construction of 227.4 billion yuan. In 2010, the grid investment will be mainly invested in the construction of key projects such as UHV power transmission lines, construction of smart grid pilots, new rural power grid reconstruction and other urban and rural distribution network construction.

Zheng Jun believes that China’s smart grid construction will be “with Chinese characteristics” because there is no grid company in the world that has such a large scale as China’s State Grid Corporation, and no country like China is rapidly advancing the construction of UHV transmission. .

“The problem with one network is that if there is a local grid that does not work, the whole grid may have problems.” Zheng Jun said that in order to avoid this situation, China needs to increase its stability when building a smart grid. Detection of power disturbances reaches milliseconds and microseconds.
