Volkswagen may not be particularly dominant in the domestic SUV market with just three existing models – the old Tiguan, Tiguan L, and Touran – but its performance in this segment remains impressive. Despite having only these offerings, the brand manages to achieve solid sales figures, thanks partly to the popularity of its older models. However, Volkswagen’s current lineup seems somewhat incomplete compared to competitors. Recently, some key details about the upcoming production version of the Volkswagen T-ROC have been leaked by international media outlets. Reports suggest that this vehicle might feature a new 48V mild hybrid system. As previously mentioned, the new car will be based on the MQB A1 platform and is scheduled to make its official debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2017.

Powertrain options include various gasoline and diesel engines, ranging from 1.0-liter to 2.0-liter units for petrol, alongside 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter options for diesel enthusiasts. There’s speculation that the new model could incorporate a 48V mild hybrid system, enhancing efficiency while reducing emissions. Some variants might even come equipped with the 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.
From spy shots, the production-ready version closely mirrors the concept car’s silhouette, suggesting an exciting reveal at the Frankfurt event. Although leveraging the MQB architecture helps reduce costs for powertrain and chassis components, innovative design features could push the T-ROC’s price tag higher. With mainstream subcompact SUVs like the Benzhi and XR-V priced between $12,000-$13,000, the T-ROC, bearing the prestigious Volkswagen badge, is likely to start at around $15,000.
