Osram and Jaguar E-PACE Enhance Nighttime Driving Safety

The OSRAM SMARTRIX matrix lighting module is now featured in the new Jaguar E-PACE, offering drivers an innovative and safer nighttime driving experience. Developed in collaboration with Varroc Lighting Systems, this advanced module includes an adaptive high beam (ADB) function that ensures optimal visibility even in challenging weather conditions. The system uses intelligent control to adjust the light distribution on the road, helping drivers spot potential hazards while avoiding glare for oncoming traffic. Thanks to OSRAM's durable silicon lenses, the headlight design has become more compact and efficient, aligning with the modern trend of slim, low-profile headlights. This technology not only enhances performance but also improves aesthetics, making it a key feature for future vehicle designs.

Compact Design Meets High Performance

While fewer cars are on the road at night, accident rates are higher due to reduced visibility and the risk of glare from oncoming vehicles. Improving front lighting is crucial for enhancing nighttime driving safety. The SMARTRIX module achieves a glare-free high beam by integrating a front camera, image processing software, and smart lighting technology. This system automatically adjusts the light pattern to prevent dazzling other drivers. This smart LED matrix technology eliminates the need for manual switching between high and low beams, making the driving experience smoother and more convenient.

Each SMARTRIX module contains 10 Oslon black flat LEDs from Osram Opto Semiconductors, allowing up to 20 pixels per headlight. These LEDs maintain high brightness and thermal stability even under high current conditions. For the first time, the module features durable silicon lenses that deliver excellent performance in a very compact form factor.

A New Era in Smart Automotive Lighting

One of the key advantages of the SMARTRIX module is its long-lasting silicon lenses, which allow for smaller and more efficient lighting systems. This opens up new possibilities for car manufacturers to innovate in optical design and create unique headlight shapes. Designers can now incorporate advanced features into compact spaces, keeping up with the growing demand for sleek, low-profile headlights. The first generation of the OSRAM SMARTRIX system is already available in the new Jaguar E-PACE, setting a new standard in automotive lighting.

At the International Symposium on Automotive Lighting (ISAL) in Darmstadt, Germany, from September 25th to 27th, the SMARTRIX-based headlight was showcased. Other notable products displayed at the OSRAM booth included the μAFS module demonstrator, OLED taillights, and a LiDAR-based autopilot sensing system.
