LED lamps frequently recall quality problems need to be concerned

Over the past few years, LED lamps—known for their energy efficiency, eco-friendliness, and extended lifespan—have steadily replaced conventional lighting solutions, with their market presence continuing to grow. However, as China's LED lighting sector expands, concerns over product quality are becoming increasingly prominent.

According to the Jiangsu Kunshan Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, the European Commission's rapid alert system for non-food products has recently issued recalls for two Chinese-manufactured LED lamps. One is the "Finlight" LED tube, which poses a potential electric shock hazard due to both ends becoming charged during insertion or removal from the socket. The other is the "LUMENIX" LED bulb, where the insulation distance between live components and accessible parts is insufficient, resulting in exposed conductive parts and an increased risk of electric shock. Neither product complies with the EU's Low Voltage Directive or the relevant European standard EN 60598. The importer has since removed these items from shelves and initiated a consumer recall. Notably, in just the first half of this year, the European Commission's rapid alert system has already flagged over ten Chinese LED lamps for similar safety violations.

Jiangsu serves as a critical hub within China's LED industry, generating an annual output value of approximately 50 billion yuan, representing 12% of the national total. The Jiangsu Inspection and Quarantine Bureau emphasized that end-users are placing greater emphasis on the quality and functionality of LED lamps. Low-cost, low-quality products struggle to establish a loyal customer base, let alone sustain profitability. The consolidation of the LED lighting sector is accelerating, making it imperative for manufacturers to stay updated on international standards set by Europe and the U.S. By improving product quality throughout the entire lifecycle—from design to raw material sourcing and assembly—companies can better position themselves in the global market. Additionally, maintaining open communication with inspection agencies, industry groups, and overseas partners will help identify recurring quality issues and address them proactively. Ultimately, businesses must prioritize quality over price competition and focus on enhancing the intrinsic value of their products to remain competitive on the world stage.
