Considering the similarity between the action process of the tactile and the frictional motion, the tactile sensor based on the friction nano-generator has been continuously researched. These studies focus on sensing in a single haptic field (eg, contact sensation, sliding haptics, etc.), while human touch is a versatile integrated system. In addition, artificial tactile sensors still require a smarter design.

Recently, a team led by Professor Wang Zhonglin and Professor Cao Xia from the Beijing Institute of Nano-Energy and Systems, Chinese Academy of Sciences, developed a multi-functional integrated tactile sensing system by combining the advantages of single-electrode and two-electrode friction nano-generators. This new multi-functional haptic system combines the advantages of single-electrode friction nano-generators in the fields of contact and positioning, and also takes advantage of the two-electrode mode in the field of mechanical motion sensing, achieving contact, relative hardness, and contact. Location and sensing of external forces. The tactile sensor has a good linear response to external forces in the range of 40-140N. The contact has a planar resolution of 2 mm. This work not only proposes a method of constructing a multifunctional tactile sensing system, but also further demonstrates the application of friction nanogenerators in the field of smart tactile sensing.
