Intel sued chip maker for alleged patent infringement

Power Management Systems Inc. filed suit against Intel, Freescale Semiconductor, and the Maverick Technology Group, alleging that these companies infringed its patents, noting Intel’s Atom Z6xx processor family and Freescale’s i. The MX515 and Mayville's PXA940 products infringe the patent. However, the lawsuit alleges that the products infringing patents include other products of these companies.

Power Management Systems filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court of Delaware alleging that the products of the three chip makers infringed its U.S. Patent No. 5,504,909. The name of this patent is "the power management device on the same integrated circuit as the functional device it manages." This patent was obtained in 1996 and is a novel power management system for integrated circuits.

The lawsuit called for a jury trial and asked the court to sentence the three defendants to compensate Power Management Systems for losses and attorneys’ fees.
