Virtual reality helps improve African healthcare

In Africa, one in ten children die before they reach the age of fifteen. One of the biggest reasons is the lack of high-quality medical care. After working in Kenya for some time, Oxford professor Mike thought of a way to improve this serious problem. He and his team created a 3D virtual reality game called Life-saving Instruction For Emergencies (LIFE).

The game can create real, nerve-tight, and emergency scenes that 2.5 million medical staff need to face. They hope to use virtual reality to help healthcare workers learn faster, gain knowledge of health care, and increase their sense of urgency.

Many African healthcare workers are equipped with cheap smartphones, allowing them to access a certain level of technology. Therefore, it is entirely possible to implement this game on this continent. Even most medical staff in rural areas can use this platform as a training and learning method to quickly adapt to any situation.

In addition to putting these medical staff in real situations through virtual reality technology, they can also learn WHO guidelines and obtain professional certification. The creation and dissemination of the game also have the potential to provide education and training in any difficult and inaccessible places.
