In 2010, the global semi-conductor used equipment market reached 6 billion

According to a research report jointly researched by SEMI and Semico Researchy, the “Secondary Equipment Market Research Report on Semiconductors” shows that in 2010, sales of semi-conductor used equipment in the global market reached approximately US$6 billion, an increase of 77% compared with 2009. Expenditure on second-hand equipment already accounts for 13% of total equipment expenditure.

The research project was led by SEMI's Special Interest Group SEA (Secondary Equipment & Applications Group, Used Equipment and Applications Committee). The participating companies involved the entire used equipment market, including IDM, foundry, original equipment manufacturers, rental companies, refurbishment companies, and agents. .

“The main difficulty in estimating the size of the semiconductor used equipment market lies in the complexity of the current market.” Dan Tracy, senior director of SEMI's industry analysis and statistics department, mentioned that “semiconductor used equipment was refurbished and sold through different players — a highly decentralized supply chain. In addition, original equipment manufacturers, semiconductor manufacturers, refurbishment companies, distributors, and agents also sell used equipment. A piece of equipment may go down many times before entering a production or research organization."
