In recent years, the development of new energy vehicles has accelerated rapidly, capturing the attention of consumers worldwide. Especially in China and Europe, governments have introduced various policies to encourage the adoption of electric vehicles. However, as the industry grows, the supporting infrastructure has struggled to keep up with the demand.
For example, France and the United Kingdom have both announced plans to phase out the sale of gasoline and diesel cars by 2040. Luxury car manufacturer Aston Martin has also committed to stopping the production of internal combustion engine vehicles in the future. Meanwhile, China is actively promoting electric vehicles through subsidies and incentives, and as the technology improves, consumer confidence is growing significantly.
Despite the popularity of new energy vehicles, the infrastructure—particularly charging stations—has not developed at the same pace. According to a recent report, by 2040, the world will need to build around 526 million charging units to support the growing number of electric vehicles. Analysts from Morgan Stanley previously noted that Tesla's electric vehicle market could expand tenfold by early 2023, but without sufficient charging infrastructure, this growth could face major obstacles.
Experts believe that meeting the needs of over 500 million electric cars will require collaboration between public and private sectors across different regions. As the largest electric vehicle market globally, China is expected to contribute approximately one-third of the total investment in charging infrastructure by 2040. This highlights the critical role that both government and private enterprises must play in building a sustainable and efficient charging network for the future of mobility.
