Molex launches customized capacitive liquid position sensor

Interconnect product supplier Molex introduces customized capacitive liquid position sensor products, a low-cost measurement solution with a primary sensor and reusable electronic circuit, designed for measuring liquid or non-metallic containers Designed with granular materials, patented sensor electrode design and configurable software provide higher accuracy, lower hardware cost and easier installation.

The custom-designed capacitive liquid position sensor is optimized for medical liquid management systems, automotive fuel tanks, agricultural liquid cylinders, hydraulic fluid and pump control, beverage dispensing systems, and other industrial applications. Capacitive sensors have a variety of output interface options, including SB, I2C, and discrete signals, providing a customized interface that can meet the needs of almost any application.

These sensors have 95% accuracy in automatic mode and 98% accuracy in manual calibration. Users can configure embedded software for maintenance-free automatic calibration or manual calibration, which greatly improves the accuracy of the sensor.

The capacitive sensor is equipped with a flexible circuit, adapts to the shape of the container via a pressure-sensitive adhesive, and can be easily installed outside the container. In addition to measuring granular and powder materials, it can also measure corrosive liquids. These sensors can measure almost any non-metallic material. Capacitive sensors use solid-state capacitance technology and there are no moving parts, eliminating the mechanical wear problems that occur over time.

Capacitive sensors have design flexibility. Sensor backplane options include PCB, polyester flex circuits, and polyimide flex circuits. In terms of design, traditional PCBs can be used for flat surface containers, or thin flexible circuits for curved surfaces or space-limited applications.

The new liquid position capacitive sensors can be paired with almost any Molex interconnect product or cable component. They are fully compatible with integrated designs that use Molex's customized user interface, including membrane switches and capacitive touch technology.
