[System Overview]
The thin client, also known as NC (Network Computer) is an abbreviation of the network computer. It refers to a desktop computer that is dedicated to the network computing environment to acquire most of the resources through the network and invoke the applications and data stored on the server. It does not have any external storage such as hard disks, floppy disks, and optical drives, and it has no or very few expansion ports.
The concept of a thin client is an NC revolution that was initiated approximately seven or eight years ago by foreign companies such as SUN and ORACLE. Due to the limitations of network bandwidth at that time, the business model was eventually overwhelmed. With the maturity and development of network technology, the high-speed network infrastructure has rekindled the fire of NC's life, making the realization of NC the most basic physical basis.
NC mainly develops in the following directions, including: education (network classrooms, multimedia teaching), government office automation (taxation, salary management, personnel management, file management, etc.), terminal inquiry system (train ticket system inquiry, shopping mall goods inquiry, etc.) ), city electronic maps, network storage ... and currently the most important still focus on the first two ways, namely education and office automation.
[System Requirements]
According to the working principle of the system, it can be divided into two parts: server and thin client terminal:
server:
(1) High reliability, availability and stability (2) Rich management flexibility (3) Powerful data processing capability (4) Good scalability.
Thin client terminal:
(1) Simple configuration (2) Effectively prevent virus infection (3) Easy to operate and maintain (4) Support multiple network connections
[System principle]
The main principle: the client's program runs on the server side. The client sends only the keyboard and mouse information to the server. The server passes the optimized and compressed image update information to the client, and the network transmits very little information. In this way, the performance of the client-running program has nothing to do with the client locally, but depends on the performance of the server.

[System Configuration]
In response to the needs of the thin client market, Hefei Technology integrates the full range of professional advantages in development, production, and service, and introduces the optimal solution for thin client terminals. It is used by industry manufacturers for reference and selection and uses ECS Elite C3VCM2 as a thin client terminal. main control board. As shown below:
3.1 Recommended Configuration Scheme:
(1) Chassis: NC chassis.
(2) Motherboard: ECS-C3VCM2. Onboard C3 CPU 800M or 1G, 10/100M Ethernet controller RJ45 interface, VGA interface, two USB ports, one parallel port, two RS-232 ports, one PS/2 keyboard, mouse port, and solid state disk interface.
(3) Memory: 128MB DDRAM.
(4) Display: LCD/CRT (optional).
(5) Power: External +5V DC power supply.
3.2 System Evaluation:
(1) CPUs using C3 have low power consumption.
(2) Using an integrated motherboard, the components are well matched and highly reliable.
(3) The volume is small and the size is only 170mm×170mm.
(4) Rich IO interface, suitable for more applications.
(5) No additional fan assembly is required to reduce system failures.
(6) Effectively prevent the loss of important data and virus infection, and reduce the burden of maintenance and management.
(7) High cost performance and effective cost control.
