Analysis of V2X reference design for automatic driving

A joint development of the new V2X reference design will be presented at the 2016 ITS World Congress 2016

The 2016 ITS World Congress 2016 will be held in Melbourne, Australia from October 10th to 14th. Cohda Wireless will showcase the jointly developed V2X reference solution at booth 313, which will feature Renesas Electronics' R-Car The W2R and R-Car W2H SoCs are combined with Cohda Wireless' software.

In response to the US Department of Transportation's mandatory V2X to improve road safety and efficiency and the recent deployment of V2X technology in Japan, it has set a goal to promote safe V2X technology in various regions of the world. With more than a decade of research and development of the IEEE 802.11p protocol, WLAN-based technologies have proven to provide reliable and secure communications for the Cooperative Intelligent Transportation System (C-ITS). Critical and time-sensitive information about all road users and road environments, such as traffic control equipment, will be shared to improve safety and efficiency. According to estimates by the US Department of Transportation, V2X technology reduces non-harmful collisions by more than 80%.

Renesas has established an ecosystem with Cohda Wireless to provide a reference solution that will help accelerate the development of V2X systems. Renesas Electronics' V2X Entry Level Kit

Renesas Electronics' V2X entry-level kit for V2X reference solutions includes R-Car W2R, WAVE SoC for automotive wireless communication in the 5.9 GHz band, and R-Car W2H SoC with V2X host processor with embedded hardware security module for communication / Information is encrypted and protected from cyber attacks. The R-Car-based entry-level kit complies with the IEEE 802.11p standard for ITS used in Europe and North America, as well as other applicable standards (including standards for security requirements).
